Hedges cut properly
A hedge that's trimmed on a regular cycle stays thick, level and easy to manage. One that's been left for a few years usually needs a harder reduction first to bring it back into shape — we'll tell you honestly which one yours needs, and how far it can be cut back without leaving bare wood showing.
We work on everything from a low privet border in an Exeter garden to a quarter mile of farm hedgerow in the Culm Valley, using proper access equipment where the height needs it. Every job is fully insured, and all cuttings are chipped and taken away.

Hedge trimming questions
When is the best time to trim a hedge?
Most formal garden hedges are best trimmed between late spring and early autumn, with a light tidy in late summer to keep the shape. Hard reductions on conifers and overgrown hedges are best done in early spring. Farm hedgerow cutting is normally done between September and the end of February.
Can you cut hedges during bird nesting season?
Nesting birds are protected by law between 1 March and 31 August. We check hedges for active nests before starting and will postpone or work around a section where a nest is found — that's a legal requirement, not a preference.
How much does hedge trimming cost?
It depends on the length, height and how overgrown the hedge is, and whether waste needs taking away. Quotes are free and given after we've seen the hedge or a photo of it — there's no obligation.
Can you reduce the height of a tall Leylandii hedge?
Yes. Conifer hedges can be topped and reduced to a manageable height and squared up on the sides. Bear in mind conifers don't regrow from old brown wood, so we'll advise how far back it can safely be cut before you commit.
Do you take the cuttings away?
Yes — everything is chipped on site and removed, and the area is left swept and tidy. If you'd rather keep the chip for mulch, we'll leave it stacked wherever you want it.
